Organizing Committee
Django Girls Mombasa was born from Django Girls Arusha. After attending the workshop in Arusha during DjangoCon Africa, my coach from Ethiopia, Mr. Salim, encouraged me because of how well I grasped Django and asked why we couldn’t start a chapter in Mombasa. I spoke with my mentor Chris Achinga, reached out to the community, built a small team, and we launched Django Girls Mombasa. I am part of the organising committee. We held our first event in April 2026 and continue working to make Django and web development more accessible to women and girls on the Coast.

First-time Attendee
This is where it all started. I was still in campus and used to go skating after classes. Then I broke my arm and suddenly had nothing to do after lectures. Idle at home, I started showing up at local tech events just to meet people and see what I might enjoy. One of the earliest was a GDG Mombasa meetup at Close The Gap I still have the photo of myself with a broken arm at that event (it looks funny now, but it was real). I knew almost nothing about tech at the time. From that first step I kept going to local meetups (GDG, Atlassian Community, Africa's Talkings and others). The networking I built while still in campus later opened doors to an attachment, an internship, volunteering with NGOs, and eventually my first job after graduation. I’m a product of community that quiet, slightly awkward beginning in Mombasa is the real start of everything that followed.
